“There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tower high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.”
― J.R.R. TolkienThe Return of the King

Sometimes when I look at my kids, or the beauty of the sunset, or a waterfall, or the light hitting the red rocks….I think I feel a bit like Sam at this moment.

Sometimes life is filled with shadow, and we have to look above the reek and wreckage and let the beauty into our heart.

I was tired today after yesterday’s exertions. We didn’t get out until evening. It was turned cold and started to rain a little, but the kids were excited to go to White Rocks and climb around. So we did. IMG_1840 IMG_1841 IMG_1843 IMG_1844 IMG_1845 IMG_1846 IMG_1847 IMG_1848
