“Sometimes it takes a good fall to really know where you stand”
― Hayley Williams
Just downloaded this new app: 5k training. It’s a program to help you get from the couch to your first 5k in only 8 weeks! Yeah, I know what you’re thinking: “Elisa, you could run two 5k’s right now! Or heck! Maybe even a 10 k!” Well, you’re right. That’s true. BUT, I couldn’t run them very fast. And I have no motivation to do so.
I’m going to follow this plan. I don’t have to think about it, or plan. I just turn it on and follow it’s instructions. Only when it says “Walk” I “jog” (about at 12 min mile pace I would guess, on the trail… that would be faster on the road) and when it says “run” I “sprint” (more like a 7 minute mile pace on the trail). I figure it will make me faster. It’s giving me a shorter workout, but more intense. It will be interesting to see how I progress.
Today there was only one problem: I tripped on the first interval. I have no idea how. I haven’t fallen down on a run in 2.5 years! For all the miles I’ve run in that time I guess the odds were against me. It was going to happen sometime. Fortunately this was a cold morning, so I was in thick tights, gloves, and long sleeves. So the bruising and trail rash in relatively minor. Bloody, but not dripping- and only on my right side, which I can’t lay on anyway.
It did remind me of that great lesson- What do we do when we fall down? We get back up and RUN OUR A$$ off! Ha ha ha! So that’s what I did.
“The greatest glory in living
lies not in never falling,
but in rising every time we fall.”
