“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.”
― Bob Marley
Dave is my friend. He has seen my truly dark side and has helped me lift myself up back up toward the light. What more can you ask of a true friend? And today we finally got back on our bikes and back on the trail together! Of course it was mostly talking about business, but some shredding on the bike as well.
We hit up our playground at the Lunch Loops, and he let me pick all my favorite trails. It was very fun.
I absolutely love this sign. Not just for the implications of the care and maintenance of the trails at this system, but more as a metaphor for life.
Here is what I’ve discovered: life is challenging. For everyone. And some periods of time in our lives are more difficult than others. We can’t change that difficulty, nor should we. Life is meant to be challenging- like Holy Cross, Gunny Loop, Butterknife. And we can either embrace the challenges knowing that they will make us stronger, or we can deny them, fight them, attempt to alter life to be what we think it should be for our skill level. But then how do we grow? We shouldn’t bypass challenges- this accomplishes nothing. We cant bypass life, either.
Well I want to be the kind of person that sees the challenge and embraces it. I want to feel the stress and know that it is there to help me cope with a difficult situation and manage it to the best of my abilities. I want to feel the fear, internalize it, and understand that the fear is not detrimental if I use it to empower my actions.
Okay- I actually got a little bit teary while writing that. I’m done.
