“The year you were born marks only your entry into the world. Other years where you prove your worth, they are the ones worth celebrating.

Dennis and I don’t get out on our mountain bikes together very much. Such is the challenge of having small children. But it’s not a bad thing- it allows me to go through months of technical development before riding with him again. I can’t remember the last time we rode at the Lunch Loops together, it’s been that long. So the good? I get to show off. And he’s like “Wow! I had no idea you had gotten this good!” And I’m like, “You know that’s right.”
So my gift to him today (because, let’s be honest, we are totally broke) was to show him what a great mountain biker I’ve become! I promise, this was a great present. And it was pretty darn fun to ride from home, do the Light Lunch loop, and ride home together. As soon as we can trust our kids alone together for more than 30 minutes we can make this a regular kind of thing.
I loved when I’d ride some feature or obstacle and he’d say, all casual-like, “I’ve never seen you ride that before.” or “That used to terrify you.” or “That was crazy fast.” But the absolute best compliment he gave me was when he said, “I want to show you off to Christian.” Ha ha ha ha! Trophy Wife.
