“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”
― J.R.R. TolkienThe Fellowship of the Ring

Today was the day we got as much of our family together as possible. Immediate family, the Erickson progeny. That means my dads’ kids and their kids kids and their kids kids kids. For those of you who don’t know already, I am 4 of 9. My dad had 5 kids with my mother then 4 more with my step-mom. Doug passed away about 5 years ago so only 8 of us are left. Of that 8, 5 of us are now married with children. So we had a fun crowd.

Wendy and I took a few of them on a hike up to Dog Lake above Brighton ski resort. I got to take a turn backpacking my newest niece, who didn’t like it much at first but got used to me by and by.

We found a gentle moose feeding by the pond, and the kids had fun “discovering” a waterfall just by following the sound. There was also still snow on the trail. It was a fun time!
