Searching for Wild Horses

“I will follow my instincts, and be myself for good or ill.”
― John Muir

I’d had a hard day. Not necessarily “bad”, but more “challenging”. By early evening, I was ready to bask in the glow of familial love and escape to the gentle embrace of the trails. So we threw the kids in the Jeep and headed to try out Coal Canyon and climb up to the back of Mt. Garfield.

Of course I should have been aware Coal Canyon was closed for the season. So instead we ended up hiking the kids up the Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Range. They had remembered being disappointed when we did the Tellirico trail, seeing the horse prints but not the horses. So we went looking for wild horses.

And we found them. Pretty quickly. And as we hiked we found several more. The kids got to show Daddy their semi-pro hiking skillz and we got to take a lot of pictures. It was exactly what I needed.

This huge boulder had obviously recently fallen down the hill. It was neat to be able to trace it’s path. IMG_1724

Wild horses!
