“Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel…the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood.”
― Susan B. Anthony
I don’t get to make it out on the Thursday Night Singletrack and Skinny Tire Sisters rides very often. In fact, this was probably my second time ever. But since Dennis had been called out for SAR every night so far this week, he decided he didn’t have to go to training tonight so I could go ride with the ladies!
I was too excited!
There were maybe a dozen of us at the trailhead, and we broke into a faster-ride and a mellow-ride. I went with the former. I won’t bore you with the play-by-play recount of our route, and every stop, and all the talk- because this was a social ride after all. But I will say this, in short: I am so proud to know these women! Each of them had a skill set that surpassed my own, and I felt in good company.
We stayed out until sunset and beyond- four of us standing, shivering, in the parking lot, eating cold sandwiches and colder beer (well, not me…but you knew that), and laughing laughing laughing. I loved it.
